e4usa helped confirm an interest in engineering and encouraged me to pursue it as a profession. It helped me understand the broad applications of engineering to improve the lives of people and support communities. Having a taste of the design process gave me a better appreciation for the care and meticulous planning that goes into developing a product. I also got to practice working in a team toward a common goal, resolving conflicts and learning from others’ perspectives along the way.
e4usa prepared me for college and my job by familiarizing me with important processes and procedures, like the engineering design process, Gantt chart scheduling and QODs. It also gave me real world experience with meeting a client's needs through the "community based" project!
I would like to extend my gratitude to the entire e4usa team for introducing the e4usa curriculum in Ghana. Through the teaching of the e4usa curriculum in my school, we have, for the first time ever, started winning STEM competitions. In March this year, my school won the 2024 edition of Academic City University"TECH EXPO" Competition. Also, in the same month, my students also won the EYE MODEL Competition organised by School of Optometry of the University of Cape Coast in collaboration with Cardiff University(UK) through the Ghana-Wales Pact at the World Optometry Day.
e4usa is super approachable. I am not an engineer by trade or training, but I felt comfortable teaching this course. After reaching this class I realized that engineering doesn't have to be this super difficult subject area or unapproachable "thing"... rather, it is more a way of thinking. I feel like I learned to think like an engineer and teaching kids to think like that allows them to discover. I wish this type of curriculum was around when I was a kid because I would have loved it and may have been able to see myself as an engineer.
My time with e4usa was instrumental in my college education. Unlike my peers, I came into college with an understanding of many of the key aspects of engineering already understood. Not only was I a capable project solver and contributor, but I learned numerous project management skills. Those greatly contributed to my class work, where I have managed to graduate in the top of my class and earn membership into Alpha-Nu-Sigma, the Nation’s Nuclear Engineering Honor Society, while mastering a wide range of technical skills, such as a profound understanding of Neutronics and Thermal Hydraulics.
I serve as a safety/project engineer for a general contractor. Currently stationed in Maryland, I'm deeply passionate about engineering and the construction industry. Reflecting on my journey, I owe a significant portion of my interest to initiatives like E4USA. One memorable experience from high school involved designing a water filter—a hands-on project that got me pumped up with energy for creating curious solutions. Despite its challenges, witnessing the mechanism in action made every effort worthwhile.
